Provide a standard Widget for 'Note taking' in Lotus Notes 8 sidebar. Rather then launching a separate application like Journal to create new 'notes' items, if the application is in the sidebar with functionality to copy/past/capture quick notes then it is invaluable to Administrators like myself and Lotus Users in general. An example is Google's 'Notebook' Add-on to IE and Firefox.

More and more corporate users are switching to Microsoft OneNote product and then to Exchange just because of this Note-taking feature not being available and integrated as a widget in Lotus Notes Client. The IDEA is to have an always on Note-Taking app available in peripheral vision for quick, convenient access.

Please note, this is "sort of" available today. Take a look at JournalIt here:

(yes, I know we need a catalog to make these plug-ins available to you)

Also, stay tunned for some announcements at Lotusphere that should make you pretty happy in this space!

Thanks for the link Alan..."JournalIt" does seem be close to what I was looking for...hopefully we can see this fully implemented in the R8 Client code in future or as you mentioned, available in a 'Lotus Notes 8 Sidebar Plug-In Catalog' online :)

Looking forward to see what Lotusphere has in store.....!!

Alan -- thanks for that link! I've wanted that capability forever. In fact, the first time I heard the product name Lotus "Notes" back in the R2/R3 days, I assumed it just must have a context-aware annotation/note-taking facility, and I was disappointed to find out that not only wasn't it there, but there was no reasonable way to build it.
