For many users, It's easier to move from Office 2000/2003 to Symphony than to Office 2007, but it would be almost transparent if IBM made an optional menu (File, Edit, etc) that mimicked the Office 2000/2003 menu structure. Corel does this with WordPerfect Workspace Manager, and it's very useful. Link

Now this would be a great feature to have.

IBM is a much larger target than Novell. I just do not think this will ever get past the IBM lawyers :(

@2 - Then at least provide a skin architecture so that it can be built and posted on OpenNTF for download...

@2: Well, I dunno; I don't recall that Lotus sued Microsoft when they did the exact same thing in Excel 2.0. Nor do I recall that WordPerfect sued Microsoft when they did the same thing in Word 4.0. Still, that probably isn't enough to embolden IBM Legal; you're probably right after all.

I use WP for this reason (and others, as it's a good product). I also use Symphony. I agree..."Make it so!"

@2, @4
Legal precedence does exist, in Lotus V Borland, Lotus were suing Borland for copying the 1-2-3 menus. Lotus lost a pretty fierce legal battle. Basically menus etc. be copied.

Lotus did something not entirely like this before for Word Pro, with WordPerfect and Word menu help. So it has been done before.

Rather than mimic, why not adjust the menus / appearance to be like Word, in a similiar way to Notes 8 is like Outlook - whilst retaining the additiona features. This seems to have happened without legal issues. I know some will object to the move away from Openoffice, but the aim must be to get users away from Office.
