A posting in ND9 forum got me wondering. http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/ndseforum.nsf/xpTopicThread.xsp?documentId=431636F9CA9001A985257FE1003E2FD5
The user's actually asking for a categories feature from =ahem= Notes 3. It exists (lobotomized) in Outlook.
However, anyone could supply the agent & profile fixes to do this on Notes Mail.
Just 1 problem: the standard profile form will overwrite some of it. But why?
Makes me wonder, why can't these templates offer more customization?
Well, they could.
So, this request is clearly desired by the customer, above. But how about more, though?
We *could* have more custom control of the subject column, & the sender/receiver column. Justmprofile the thing.
Maybe a couple of cols could be added, but default-hidden til some1 specifies a formula for em.
& of course, color formula. Please, we can write formulas. Let us set them after theyre initialized. Oh, sure, allow us to get back to defaults.
Heck, I want to add category rollup counts to do some Bayesian checks in my own attempt at a generic Swiftfile. But Ill probably just add my own view & profile instead of reusing the standard view collections.
This costs no product development, except to the mail template.
Ultimately in my experience this kind of development simplifies the template. Youre not carrying around all the features. The template really should allow some of that customizing we've had in apps for years now.
