The hardware and admin req's for Connections are as impressive as the software is functional. In speedgeeking at last Lotusphere, there was a demo of something that looked much like activities but only used a Domino server as a backend.
For smaller shops, it would be very helpful to provide a scaled-down version of Connections that only used Domino as a backend.

This should be easily possible, esp with the new xpages and using the DB2 back end. Even without these you could use multiple .nsf files.

Not everything has to be running on Domino. They need to make the install more Domino like, not rebuild it on top of Domino. This one is never happening .. better to push for a better product that works better for SMB customers than wish for something that will never come to be.

@2 Correct! Sharepoint runs very nicely NOT on Domino.

Craig ... this is a done deal. Foundations and BlueHouse are the SMB direction. Parts will have Domino, parts will not. This is just wishful thinking
