New webbrowsers like Opera, Chrome and Firefox do support or will support WebRTC soon. WebRTC is a API in the browser for supporting realtime audio and video for chats and so on.
Actual Sametime does not support audio and video chat using the Sametime proxy server (the Sametime web client). With the availbility of the WebRTC in the browsers, Sametime should support audio and video in the browser for chats and also for meetings.
So it would not be necessary to install the Sametime client in some environments anymore, which simplifies the installation and usage of Sametime and reduces the support costs.

This demo works by using the Sametime web-api. You can start (video-)chats from a browser, but you need to have the Sametime Client installed.
