All - I believe Jon's ideas are stemming from an eval he is running in-house at his company. All good stuff Jon and thanking you for "using IdeaJam to help build future versions of IdeaJam".

This is again an entry where is stated that people need a trigger to come to IdeaJam. I do not believe in that approach. When you are really interrested, it is easy to regularly check this site. For me it is one of the "standard" things I do when I logon. I check my email, I check IdeaJam and I check the Notes 6/7 forum.

In practice, I find that people just delete these emails, and pay no heed to them.

Man.. all my ideas get shot down. I think the problem is the audience for this site is primarily IT. and while I tend to have the same notions for myself, I'm not thinking about what I would do. I'm thinking about what the majority of my users will do. I'm already seeing a decline in activity because unless someone has an idea pop into their head to share, people forget about it and don't log on to vote and comment. Most other social networking tools follow the same philosophy, you need reminders and such to come back and take a look at what's new. RSS feeds are great for this, but the majority of my users have no idea what RSS is or why they should use it. All they know is they check their email every day.

And another comment, as Bruce said, I'm not saying ideajam.net should necessarily implement these ideas, but I think they should be configurable options for people looking into implementing their own ideajam sites.

Jon - your feedback and ideas are invaluable. Please keep them coming.
