Wish Sametime Chat was built into core Domino product

 The meeting server has taken a new path and many of us have moved on to other products (gotomeeting, etc.).   However, integrated chat is considered mission critical and essential to any product in the Collaboration space (think Google Wave).  
So please either rewrite a simple chat for Domino or rip out the components we don't need and make it an option in the Domino server install.  From there the product can be upgraded to further integrate the experience into the Notes client.  I don't think chat is such a load that it requires a stand-alone server in most cases.
We need to make the fat Notes client with Eclipse more compelling and worthy of a huge install.

I agree. I support an SMB customer that's running 7.x.x with Domino and Sametime(chat) on a single server. They're ready to upgrade to 8.5.1; but, ...

Sorry, I don't actually understand this idea. :-(
With every Notes license you are already entitled to use SameTime for chat. The SameTime client is embedded in the Notes Client. And you can simply install the SameTime server onto your existing Domino server for free.

So do you want that the SameTime server is included into the Domino server installer so you don't need to do two installations? Or you want to remove the "recommendation" that a SameTime server should be run on its own hardware?

@2. I think his point is that the Chat should be:
+ Included in the install;
+ Be supported as part of the standard Mail server role, and;
+ Be as easy to implement as choosing IMAP or HTTP during the install.

Sametime (pre 8.5) is a somewhat finicky beast. Since all the Notes client license is entitled to is chat, the server portion of that should be streamlined, simplified, and baked into the standard mail server role.

Agreed...once small shops get past the idea of having their own on-site server and the expense, etc., then telling them that they need a second server just to handle intra-office chat is a tough sale and stops up selling cold.

If they want a massive WS based meeting server, time will tell if that is what customers want, and things will/will not change accordingly. In the mean time, an effective ST chat server as @3 suggested is quite valuable.
