I often want to create views in notes database with a column that is sorted by one value, but displays another value. I can't imagine this would be difficult to achieve -- allow us to specify the column value as we currently are able to, and allow us to specify a second formula to calculate what to display. If no display formula is specified, it displays the column value.
If it was done well we would be able to access the column value when computing what to display... but this may be a bit much to ask.

So, the ability to display icons and colored text does not provide what you need? My concern is that multiple columns using such capabilities on views with a large row count would create significant overhead. Can you be more specific?

a. Doesn't the ability to hide a sorted column and display a second, unsorted column already provide this capability?
b. And I'm not sure if this is what your second comment referred to, but one column in a view can also already refer programmatically to the contents of another column in the same view.

I agree with @2a also. In fact, I do this quite a bit in my apps here.

Agreed. A hidden sorted column achieves this.

When your column is categorized a hidden column will not always achieve the desired effect.
