Based on some recent experience the Notes client does a very poor job of rendering HTML mail. As far as I can tell the problem relates to the clients interpretation of inline css. Assuming that an email contains compliant CSS 1.0 instructions and XHTML I'd expect it to render well and currently it doesn't. It seemed to me that the Notes 8 standard did a worse job (given the same code) than the Notes 6.5.4 client. So my idea is can we please 'fix' HTML rendering in the Notes clients so at least simple layout instructions work? |

Why is CSS support important? Well for us it's the write once read anywhere-ness. In a subscription model subscribers are not usual asked what their preferred email client is and so it suits best to write one mail for all clients.
From testing I can see that adding attributes to HTML tags gives a better result (widths to tables and table cells for example).. though that tends to be a bad choice for all the usual reasons.

I agree, that Notes should have a better HTML rendering. Lotus can just copy paste the source code for proper HTML rendering from Firefox source code :)
