I haven't checked Notes8, but in Domino7 its not possible to save prototype.js version 1.6 in a java-Scriptlibrary. The editor finds
a test for equality (==) mistyped as assignment?
because of this statement:
if (match = source.match(pattern)) { // stuff }
Some purist might not like it, but this is perfectly legal in JavaScript. Also its unecesary as JavaScript is not a compiled language. Its only to help the programmer to write code. Nevertheless there are cases, it stands clearly in the way, as prototype is written by experts and happily used in maybe tens of thousands of projects.
I am all for automatic checks of code quality. In Eclipse I use checkstyle and sometimes I tend to dabble with PMD. But I can turn it out anytime, when there is a reason.
The syntax check for javaScript should be optional.

You probably know this, but in case somebody doesn't, you can make Notes stop validating your JavaScript entirely by turning off Javascript entirely for the whole client. The award-winning Jake Howlett blogged it a while back. It's an all-or-nothing change, but if you're not using Javascript in the client it may not matter to you.

And I agree with you and am promoting this idea.
