Call uidoc.refresh form an action button in embedded view reliably crash the Lotus client - in every version I have tried. There is much usage for this.
I have an application where there is a button on the parent form that adds an entry in the embedded view. After saving the new document I do a NotesUIWorkspace.Refresh and the view is refreshed and no crash.
Rob, the problem isn't with UIWorkspace.Refresh, it's with NotesUIDocument.Refresh.
I want to use uidoc.refresh so that I can update the document in which the view is embedded. For instance, if I have a purchase order document with a list of line items displayed in an embedded view, I may want a total of the line items written back to the purchase order document. If I want to create, edit, and delete line items via action buttons on the embedded view, I'll need to call uidoc.refresh to get the new total to display on the purchase order. This will crash the Notes client.
I know that an alternative is to use hotspot buttons on the purchase order document itself, but then I have to prompt the user with a dialog box to select which line item they want to edit or delete. It's an ugly extra step.
I also want to say that I'd LOVE to see this bug fixed in ND7. I know, I know. I should make a proper bug report, but we all know that's going nowhere.
