Notes Client / Other: Bring back "Show as workspace"

Author: Oliver Regelmann
Tags: workspace bookmarks
Idea:

I really liked the "show as workspace" feature for bookmark folders in ND6 and 7. It provided an easy way to open various databases with few clicks and allowed to organize the old workspace tabs into groups (each folder containing its own tabs). I had some of these workspaces open all the time.

Unfortunately this has been removed in Notes 8. The new bookmark design for me is a regression since now more steps are needed to open a database.

Guess I will have to reject being a pilot user for Notes 8 then (not that this question has come up yet). It was only for that feature that I adopted the bookmarks. This combined the best of the old workspace and the bookmarks!
Domino Administrator / Other: Provide an easy way to put a corporate logo into the letterhead

Author: Oliver Regelmann
Tags: mail letterhead
Idea:

Probably the most often made customization of the mail database is to put a corporate logo into the letterhead. So why not allow an admin to do this without having to fiddle with the design?

Instead there could be a policy option to provide the logo.

re: Provide an easy way to put a corporate logo into the letterhead

Author: Rob Goudvis
Comment: You could setup a central service where company logos are stored (with a small fee?) and Notes will obtain the logo from there when needed. The obtained logo is stored in the receiver's database, so the logo does only need to be imported once. In general many people will only read mails from a limited number of other companies, so the overhead is limited.

Updates to a company logo can be handled by some kind of expiration date added to the original logo and an indication in the message that there is a new logo to be read.

The reader must have the ability to remove any of the obtained logos. This is like removing your cookies or your trusted sites.
Domino Server / Other: Deliver start/stop scripts for Domino on Linux

Author: Oliver Regelmann
Tags: administration domino linux
Idea:

I guess everyone who installed Domino on Linux yet had to somehow generate init-scripts to run it as daemon. There are some options available to do this:

- using Daniel Nashed's scripts

- grabbing the one linked in some old redbook

- DIY writing

It would be nice if Domino delivered those scripts with the setup and could be run as daemon out of the box as it can as service on Windows.

Domino Administrator / Other: Allow me to delete a database via AdminP

Author: Oliver Regelmann
Tags: administration
Idea:

Often when you delete a database from the admin client there's an error, mostly because the server thinks someone is using it (even when you know there's absolutely no one currently using that db). The admin client then removes the database from the file list and just prints an error message in the status bar.

If you've seen that error message you've got to F9, navigate back to the folder where you've been and try it again.

It would be great to have an error message which is asking, if an administration request should be generated for the deletion of this database. The server could then try to delete it repeatedly.

Kick out all users and delete anywise?? YES / NO" If you click yes, it takes all actions necessary to delete right then and there with no further interaction or waiting.

There is nothing quite like instant gratification.

Author: Karen Hooper
Comment: we get requested by end users as well as IT departments if we can add the company logo as a letterhead option and many times we will go to Notes customers and they have already done it and boy is it ugly (typically).
Domino Administrator / Admin Tools: Convert mail files from the Administrator client

Author: Oliver Regelmann
Tags: administration convert upgrade
Idea:

Upgrading mail databases to a new template can be done with the "load convert" console command. I wish this could be called from within the files tab of the Administrator client for a selected range of mail files. Or even better from the persons view for a selected range of users.

A dialog should then ask for options like the old template, the new template and whether to upgrade the folder design (-u option)

A "load design -f" should be appended automatically to fix the issue that the rules folder gets the Inbox design.

Notes Client / Other: User friendly version of Domino directory

Author: Oliver Regelmann
Tags: directory ui gui design usability
Idea:

By default every user sees the same design of the Domino directory, including all configuration data and the ugly person documents. There's simply too much information for the end user. He doesn't need to see everybody's home server, public key data or password policy. Some of potentially essential infos are hidden on tabs in a second row (like the company hierarchy).

I wish another design would be displayed to non-admins, just with the people, mail-in and groups views and user friendly forms for example like in the personal address book.
