Lotus Foundations Start / : Make a foundations addon for simple desktop management

Author: Roland Reddekop
Tags: desktop security administration foundations
Idea:

Foundations currently does nothing to help the SMB to easily manage their desktops (e.g. lock down, simple group policy management) in a user-friendly way. Yes, you can download an MS policy editor, but a web-based utillity that integrates with webadmin would be a much better experience.

re: Make a foundations addon for simple desktop management

Author: JEFF Champagne
Comment: I just started using computer after 2 years or so . I took some adult ed classes 5 years ago because I could not even type out my job resume`. A friend worked for I.B.M. 25 years ago , selling and repairing copiers . He told me about a program you guys had , at least back then , for repairmen who came up with ideas , to make their jobs easier and I.B.M. products more reliable . A man frequently had to replace a part , as did many of his co-workers , and he submitted an idea that was so simple . The cure was only to apply a piece of tape and the part would not wear out . Regular maintenance required replacing the tape and the problem was eliminated . I remember it as one way to challenge and reward your employees in a way that kept them on their feet to keep I.B.M. the leader in the field . I also heard about I.B.M. not wanting to name an attachment to a computer a mouse , which some people still laugh about . I ve come up with all kinds of off the wall ideas . One I tried to pursue I thought was ingenious , but it got turned down by one of those inventor hot lines . This idea could be bought up by every computer company out there , but I do not want to give it away , or have someone steal it., What would you or anyone out there recommend ?
Author: Bernie Leung
Comment: Desktop admin is absolutely necessary if we are serious about deploying to more than 1 user at a time.

Now with LF branch office, hopefully there are efforts to make it easier to manage multiple desktops over multiple sites. Otherwise, I can't see how large organizations can adopt the LF platform.
