Author: Ulrich Krause
Tags: applications
Idea:

All labels for Buttons, ViewHeaders, TableTabs should be computed for display ( Client and Web ).

This would make it easy to develop multi language applications without using the Global Workbench.

You can change the label for a view action at runtime but you cannot change the view headers label.

Author: Kerr Rainey
Comment: I'd be thinking along the ideas of a language bundle. Enter the alias for the label and the language bundle maps the alias to the required value. It could be made a core feature that could work in options lists etc. Possibly even working in views.
Domino Designer / : Insert Richtext Into Richtext

Author: Ulrich Krause
Tags: RichText
Idea:

I wish that IBM would enhance the NotesRichTextItem class and provide a function to insert Richtext into existing richtext.

To find the insertion point, the FindNextElement method of the NotesRichTextNavigator class could be used.

The insertion point can be before or after the element you found.

An alternative could be a function to copy a part ( range ) of an existing rtitem (A) into a temporary rtitem ( A --> C) and use rtItem.AppendRTItem to append the richtext to be inserted. (C + B) Then simply copy and append the rest of the original rtItem. (C + A).

Domino Administrator / Other: Set ACL For Mailfile Owner

Author: Ulrich Krause
Tags: ACL
Idea:

We all know that we can set multiple entries in the ACL of a set of databases at once using the Domino Administrator client.

But one option is missing. An example: You want to set the access level for a mailfile owner to Editor and enable a few options and assign a role or two.

From a developers point of view it is easy. You can write an agent. But as an administrator you normally do not write agents in LotusScript. You use your admin client.

Unfortunately there is no chance to do this today.

Pls. IBM, enhance the admin client and give us the ability to change the ACL of multiple databases. The ACLEntry to be changed has to be dynamic. ( i.e. the value of the owner field in the calendar profile of the mailfile)

I've already asked the people at Ytria , if this is possible by using aclEZ; it seems, that there is a chance to accomplish the aim.

Domino Designer / : Field Property "mandatory field"

Author: Ulrich Krause
Tags: property
Idea:

I wish, IBM would add a "mandantory field" property for editable fields.

A lot of code is written in the past to check, if a field contains any value and raise a warning message to the user if not. There are solutions in @formula and script all over the web. This indicates, that we really need such a property ...

So why not add this property as a core feature to Lotus Notes/Domino?

re: Field Property "mandatory field"

Author: Grant Lindsay
Comment: I am voting this down because "mandatory" doesn't always mean "non-blank". I both like and need the flexibility of the Input Validation formula (or QuerySave event) to do deeper checking for validity.

For example, imagine a form with two fields:

Any new Do-Dads?: [radio: Yes, No]
If, Yes, how many? [number]

The number field need be filled in only if the radio button is set to "Yes", otherwise, it can be blank (or, perhaps, MUST be blank...)

The point is, a simple "mandatory property" doesn't address this situation.

After all, how hard is this to write?: @If( @ThisValue = ""; @False; @True )

-- Grant
Author: Corey Davis
Comment: @1 Yes, sometimes you do need a deeper level of validation checking, but many times you just want to make sure that the user checks a box or enters something -- anything! -- into a field. In that case, this idea is very useful and not only makes life easier. In cases such as your example were a deeper level of validation would be required then do not flag the field as mandatory and do the normal validation checking in QuerySave or wherever.
