Idea:

Internet Explorer is the embedded browser for the Windows platform. Firefox is the embedded browser for Linux platform (don't known about MacOS).

Firefox should also be an (the ?) embedded browser for the Windows platform.

Comment: I think that eclipse is going to offer this in the future. I'd assume that Notes 8 is just piggy backing that functionality.

Comment: Once Notes starts (has started) rendering HTML email using the IE engine, we're in the same camp with Outlook users as far as the potential for ActiveX (and other) IE related vulnerabilities. One HUGE security feature of the pre-Eclipse client was the embedded Notes browser (ecchk!) that would simply render the HTML email and nothing else.

Idea:

When using a scriptable setup for roaming users, it should be possible to use environment variables (Windows) to retrieve information, like the username, the server name, etc.

Comment: Jean-Yves, we are using Windows Roaming. A batch file (script) is already running when the user logs in. It could be modified to set up some additional environment variables (mail server,...). Am I wrong ?

Comment: Agreed, but Notes should be able to do this anyway - after all, the database knows where the archive is, so it should be feasible to extend the search facility to cater for this.

For the username, it could be ok if the Windows Usernanme is the same as the Notes userName.

For the Mail Server, how would you know on which server your mail file is?

In an environment of more than 500 servers, it would be hard to determine the right one.

Idea:

...or to change the site associated to a resource. From time to time, in the Resource db, sites have to be renamed. Currently, you have to delete the associated resources and create them again with the new site. The new functionality should rename all references to the resource whose site has been changed in all meetings documents referencing it.

Comment: Actually, you can create another site and then rename all your resouces to this new site, it allows you to keep the same resource's name.

Comment: At least there should be an option to let you chose which browser"engine" to use. There are serveral solutions out there depending on IE as rendering backend.

Comment: And not just search! Users should not really need to know or care about archiving. Outlook uses Personal Folders to do much the same as archiving does in Notes, and archiving is used simply to reduce their size. The great thing about that implementation is that they are just in files on the disc (hmm, so they are in Notes) and the interface allows seamless moving of material between on-line, personal folders and archive folders.
